Loretto’s Licensed Practical Nurse Apprenticeship Program
Loretto and 1199SEIU to Celebrate the Success of the First Federally Recognized LPN Program in the Nation
Friday, August 23, 1 p.m., at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation
Loretto and 1199SEIU have invited federal and state representatives to Loretto Health & Rehabilitation on Friday at 1 p.m. for a graduation celebration honoring the 2024 Class of Licensed Practical Nurse Apprenticeship Program graduates. Loretto, the fourth largest healthcare provider in Central New York, and 1199SEIU, the largest healthcare workers’ union in the United States, forged a successful labor-management partnership to develop the first federally recognized Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Apprenticeship Program in the nation
The LPN Apprenticeship Program helps frontline workers overcome the barriers of cost and accessibility to advance their healthcare careers by offering paid on-the-job training, free tuition, mentorship, and guaranteed employment. It also seeks to address the critical need in our community to culturally diversify the licensed healthcare workforce.
Since the program began in 2018, 49 people have successfully graduated from the 11-month program, which has a 96% pass rate for the NCLEX licensing exam. The upcoming 2025 class is the largest yet, with 15 enrolled students.
The program is funded by The Loretto Corporation, 1199SEIU UHWE, and the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund, which invests over $65,000 per student.
