Work as a Certified Home Health Aide in a Place You Can Call Home

Certified home health aides (or CHHAs) care for and assist residents while providing services to maintain physical and emotional comfort in a homelike setting. For example, at Loretto’s Borer Memory Life Community at The Nottingham campus, CHHAs help ensure that residents feel at home.

Timnasia Maeweather, currently a CHHA at The Nottingham, began her career in food services at The Borer Memory Life Community. As she explored employment and growth opportunities through the organization, she soon found herself wanting to explore more opportunities.

Timnasia enjoyed her interactions with residents while serving them meals and saw community and camaraderie between the CHHAs. With their encouragement, she was inspired to become one herself.

Thanks to Loretto’s in-house training programs, Timnasia was able to earn while she learned before beginning her new role. Since she already had familiarity with the community of residents along with the support of her coworkers, the career transition was made easy.

Timnasia said, “The community that we have here is really great. The other CHHAs are willing to help me because I am new to being a CHHA. Having them teach and break things down was really good for me because coming from a different position can be overwhelming.” She finds that everyone works together as a team and helps each other when needed.

For Timnasia, the community between her coworkers was not only why she was inspired to become a CHHA but also why she continues to love what she does.

From being invited to join fun activities by the recreation therapists, to having a little dance party when a crowd favorite comes on the speakers – Timnasia enjoys her job because she feels like she is part of a family.

But of course, the family would not be complete without the residents. “My favorite part about working here is engaging in activities with the residents. I love the conversations I have with them, and it is an honor to work with them.”
